Asalha Puja Day

This is one of four Buddhist holidays that in Thailand are strictly observed and as such has historically always included as a day of mandated ban on serving alcohol and playing music in bars. Most often this results in a bar closure (sometimes mandated).
The actual hours of closure vary from district to district and from year to year. Closure may start a just past midnight or at the start of the business day, conversely the ending time may be midnight or it may be through the night.
It is, however, not uncommon to find bars that still serve, though it generally is very discreet, i.e. beer in a coffee mug. For more details please see Exceptions to the Rules

Magha Puja (Makha Bucha), Visakha Bucha / Vesak Day, Asalha Puja Day,
and Buddhist Lent Day (Wan Khao Phansa)

Note: Asalha Puja Day is followed by Buddhist Lent Day (Wan Khao Phansa) making the combination a two-day bar closure event.
